There are actually several Team Assault maps. This page describes the original. Team Assault 4 is an entirely new map with new heroes and spells. As I have no page describing it yet, the link is on this page.

In case you are unfamiliar with Warcraft III and AOS type maps, I will describe it to you.

Warcraft III is a real time strategy (RTS) game made by Blizzard (Starcraft, Diablo, World of Warcraft). It comes with a powerful map editor that lets you create customs maps. In these custom maps you can: edit the 3D terrain, create and edit units, create and edit items, create and edit triggers (which are essentially little C scripts, but built with a GUI), and create and edit spells among other things. These maps employ a custom terrain, many new units and spells, as well as a large number of custom triggers.

In this map, each of the 10 players controls one hero unit. There are two teams and on each team a number of computer controlled units spawn by your base and run out to attack the enemy. You and your allies must help the computer units to defeat the enemy. You win by destroying the enemy base.

Description

Two opposing forces controlled by the computer send troops at a fixed interval. Each player chooses a hero, which you use to help your side destroy the enemy castle. What makes this map different from your standard AOS map is that each hero can build a unique bodyguard.

Details

The goal I had for this map was bring to fruition an idea I had for a Warcraft III map that had been bugging me for some time. It is based on Aeon of Strife, but I wanted each hero to have his or her own small group of bodyguards, which would be unique to each hero. The archer hero would have a bunch of archers, the tree hero would have smaller tree bodyguards, and the Tauren hero would have Tauren bodyguards and so on. Another goal was that it was MY map. I thought about taking an existing map and editing it to add bodyguards. In the end, I decided to create my map from scratch. I was almost entirely successful. The only thing created by someone else was the Insect Leader.

This map includes:

Of note is the Engulfing Flame spell. This spell required triggers to get working correctly.

I worked on the map for exactly one month finishing August 17th, 2003 and spent between 30-50 hours. This includes working and testing. I went through a little over 50 versions of the map.

Credits

LordRykoNailo, for creating the Insect Leader and his custom ultimate spell. Teal, for helping me get the Engulfing Flame custom spell working. Darkell, for testing. ScrewAroundACC, for helping me test several times. And all the rest of the people who innocently joined a testing session on Battle.net and not only stayed and played, but told me of bugs, imbalances, offered suggestions, gave ideas, told me what they didn’t like, and were just helpful. Thank you.
